Fund Raising

"Those who need money and those who can give money meet on the common ground of God's love."   - Henri Nouwen

Like all L’Arche communities, L’Arche Halifax needs to raise funds for the parts of their operations that make them a community, not just an agency.  As the community develops, so these needs change. When a community is starting up, the need is for salary and operating costs for the first two years.  Following this, money is needed to secure our first home.  Whether we build or buy, accessibility is imopirtant so we can welcome all who come.  Then come the costs for training assistants, travel between communities, and establishing day programs.

Many individuals and organizations have already been most generous in helping us reach our first fund raising target.  We have received $130,000 towards our start-up costs.  Cathy MacMillan began work as Executive Director for L'Arche Halifax in January, 2006.

With our initial funding secured, we are now working towards raising money towards our first house.  Provincial legislation requires a sprinkler system, access ramps, and accessible rooms, bathrooms, etc.  As of July 2005 we have received donations and commitments of nearly $30,000 towards this target.

We are very grateful for the contributions received thus far.  We have seen the genorosity of the Archdiocese of Halifax, the Anglican Diocese of Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island, The Sisters of Charity, The Flemming Foundation, the Patrick Power Estate, L'Arche Canada, PLURA/Kairos , the International Order of Saint Luke, The Nova Scotia Credit Unions Foundation, Metro Rotary Clubs, and too many individuals to name here.

Planned giving is an option worth considering

We welcome further donations which can be made to :
