Dear Friends of L' Arche Halifax:As discussed at past gatherings and in our last newsletter, we are moving forward with our membership drive for L' Arche Halifax (application Below ) Our reasons are four fold for proceeding in this direction:
We need to ensure that we continue to have monies to support our monthly gatherings and the production and mailing of our quarterly newsletter. These costs have been covered by grants received from Kairos (formerly the ecumenical foundation called PLURA). They have been very generous in supporting us for two successive years, however we may not receive this grant in the future. When writing applications for funding the question often arises as to the size of our support base. It would be very helpful if we could answer the question with "L' Arche Halifax has --- members". Many foundations want to be assured that there is grassroots support for any endeavor they will fund.Membership will allow you to vote at the Annual General Meeting.
Membership promotes a sense of belonging. "Community is a place of belonging where people, though very different in temperament and background, and who do not necessarily live under the same roof, discover others of like mind and spirit and appreciate each other and reveal to each other who they are" (Jean Vanier)
In light of the above, we are requesting your support of L' Arche Halifax through modest membership fees of $15.00 a year for individuals, $25.00 for families. These fees will be waived for core members (those among us who are mentally challenged). We would ask that you fill out the membership form and return it with your check at your earliest convenience.Thank you for your support.
Sincerely,Nancy Gilbert
